Commercial Demo Reel Circa 2005 – 2014
Here is a compilation of my old commercial work. In a short 18 months I went from starting my career in VFX to heading a six person department. The next two and half years I grew that department to 18 people, installed a pipeline workflow, and a render farm. Since then I have been a freelance VFX/CG Supervisor.
On this Twizzlers commercial for Brand New School I supervised the CG and compositing teams. To stream line the modeling, rigging, and animation process; I wrote an auto-rigger that allowed the 3d modelers to work without restraint and the animators to just run a script to rig up individual curves for Twizzlers to follow.
For Buck New York I supervised the live action shoot, matte painting, CG team, and CG composite shots. In addition I choreographed the acrobatics and camera moves for the car chase scenes. This was shot on a combination of the Red camera and the Phantom Gold high speed camera.
In this spot for Electronic Arts with Motion Theory, I supervised the shoot, CGI, And compositing teams. We tested the motion control techniques at Pacific Motion Control before the shoot. This was shot on film with the gazelle motion control rig
On this campaign for Cadillac I supervised both the shoot and the CG team. It was shot in downtown Los Angeles and Angeles National Forest. None of which had any snow, so we added it.
The second in this campaign for Cadillac I supervised both the shoot and the CG team. It was shot in downtown Los Angeles and Upland California. Again no snow, so we added it.
This music video for Beck – Girl was my very first VFX Supervision job and was at the time ground breaking and spawned many copy cats mimicking the technique. It was awarded the MVPA for best Visual Effects.
Gatorade – Inside Sidney Crosby
For this Motion Theory directed Gatorade commercial I did on set previsualizion for the major VFX shots, supervised the shoot, and was the second unit director. In post-production I supervised the CG team. I wrote a custom brain for Massive Prime for a shot of thousands of Sidney Crosbys that got cut. Heartbreaking.
This is the first campaign for Lenovo after it bought IBM’s Thinkpad division. Directed by Motion Theory I supervised the shoot and the CGI team. This was shot on film.
Another spot for the first campaign for Lenovo after it bought IBM’s Thinkpad division. Directed by Motion Theory I supervised the shoot and the CGI team. This was shot on film with some high speed photo-sonics.
I supervised the shoot for this McDonalds spot directed by Motion Theory and consulted on the construction of the soap box racer. Supervising the team on this one was a bit more difficult as I had to fit in an unbudgeted underwater CG scene.
Efficiency Vermont – I am Jesse Watts
This fully CG spot for Efficiency Vermont was created with Thornberg and Forester. Along with the creative director, I did the character design for the new light bulb people. I pre-visualized animation and supervised the CG and composite teams. Additionally, I simulated all the cloth and hair for the characters.
There were five spots for the first HP hands campaign directed by Motion Theory. I won’t bore you with all of them. These spawned a years long campaign I supervised the CG team and tracked the hands.
